EC Logistics has created a Copyright Software Programme to assist with determining if a Dangerous Goods Load is Compatible, as well as determining if the load is Exempt or Not Exempt from Chapter VIII of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 and it's ammendments.
Below is an example and explanation of how this software can assist you to verify compliancy, it also has a facility to print out a copy of the load status, which can be attached to your delivery documentation.

SANS 10231 : OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Clause 7 - LOAD CONSTRAINTS :
7.1 Exempt quantity for a load consisting of items with the same UN Number
If the total quantity loaded is less than the quantity ( in kg’s or litres )
Legislated in SANS 10231 –
Table C , in the EXEMPT QUANTITY column ,
the requirements of SANS 10231 do not apply
7.2 – Exempt Quantity for a Mixed Load

CALCULATION TO DETERMINE IF A MIXED LOAD IS EXEMPT OR NOT
A = Q x F
( A is the result ,
Q is the quantity of the dangerous goods being transported , in kilograms or litres ,
F is the factor shown in the column under header F of table C1 )
IF THE RESULT OF THE CALCULATION EXCEEDS THE FACTOR
( NUMBER ) OF 1000 :
FULL COMPLIANCE WITH CHAPTER VIII OF THE NATIONAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 93 OF 96 & IT’S AMENDMENTS ARE REQUIRED
NOTE : THE VARIOUS SUBSTANCES MUST BE COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER AS PER THE CLASS COMPATIBILITY TABLE !!!!
EXTRACT FROM SANS 10231 : ANNEX – C EXEMPT QUANTITIES
Example of the Software available from EC Logistics to do the calculation electronically , using extracts from the Full Database included in the software programme , using the following steps :
A : Select Substances in Database

B : Click on Transfer Substances

C : Substances transferred to Calculator , locate incompatible product and delete from the Database selection , then re run transfer

D : Substances re transferred to Calculator

E : Insert Quantity to be transported , shows load is in Excess of Exempt Quantity

F : Insert Revised Quantity to be transported , shows load is in now Exempt
